A Chandigarh man lost Rs 9 lakh in a credit card scam in December 2024. The victim, T Rajesh Kumar from Sector 31, received a call from someone posing as a Punjab National Bank representative named Ajay Tripathi. The scammer offered a new credit card and requested a video call for identity verification, during which the victim shared personal and card details. The scammer then sent a fraudulent link, which led to unauthorised transactions of Rs 8,69,400 from an American Express card and Rs 60,000 from an Axis Bank card. The victim reported the incident to the Chandigarh Cyber Cell, and the scammers also hacked his Amazon account before being blocked by platform security.
