She received deepfake pornographic images of herself, which she described as “like a train slamming into you.” Bates explains that AI tools can generate realistic pornographic images or videos of women using photos from social media, often for free or at low cost. She highlights that 96% of deepfakes are pornographic, with 99% featuring women and girls. Bates also notes that deepfake pornography is prevalent in schools, with students creating such images of female peers or teachers.
