Philippine mother loses P260,000 to Temu investment scam via Telegram, leading to debt trap and private school transfer for daughter

A mother of one in the Philippines lost P260,000 in what she described as the "TEMU Investment Scam," which involved a fraudulent investment scheme promising to double money. The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, was lured through Telegram and encouraged to take loans from online lending apps to increase profits, only to be trapped in debt. The scam also led to her mobile phone contacts being accessed by third-party call center agents, who sent threatening messages and pressured her contacts to pay her debt. As a result, she had to transfer her daughter from a private school to a public school. The victim is urging authorities, including the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group, to investigate the scam.
