48-year-old woman loses $108,000 to cryptocurrency scam via dating app and Strike account setup

A 48-year-old woman from Des Plaines lost approximately $108,000 in a scam involving cryptocurrency. She met the offender through the dating app Dil Mil and communicated with him via FaceTime and social media over about a month. The scammer convinced her to invest in cryptocurrency and helped set up an account on Strike. The woman deposited $108,000 into the account, but later lost contact with the offender and was unable to access or convert the funds. Police confirmed the incident and reported that the victim could not retrieve the money in either U.S. currency or a reputable cryptocurrency.
