32-year-old woman loses $5,500 to Facebook message scam in Trinidad
Summary
A 32-year-old woman from Longdenville, Chaguanas, was scammed out of $5,500 on June 25 after contacting a man named "Glenn" through a Facebook message. The man, who claimed to work at a supermarket in East Trinidad, convinced her to buy empty cases and accompany him to another supermarket in Tacarigua, where she spent $100. After giving him cash and her driver’s permit at the first supermarket, she was told he would meet his supervisor to prepare an invoice, but he disappeared. When she inquired with a supermarket supervisor, she was informed no one named Glenn worked there. The victim later filed a report at the Arouca Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. In a separate incident, equipment worth an undetermined value was stolen from the University of Trinidad and Tobago O’Meara Campus on June 25, including copper banks, fan motors, and copper lines from air-conditioning chillers.
