Teenage girl in Gwent sexually groomed online leading to suicidal ideation and seven-year prison sentence for offender
Summary
A 44-year-old American man, Jacob Ewing, flew to Wales to meet a teenage girl he had groomed online, intending to "marry" her. Ewing was arrested at Cardiff Airport with paedophilic images, a knife, and a wooden cosh. The girl, from the Gwent area of Wales, was being controlled and forced to perform degrading acts online. Ewing was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for 13 offences, including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The girl’s mental health deteriorated significantly due to the abuse, and she reported feeling suicidal. Ewing was intercepted before he could cause physical harm, thanks to collaboration between UK and US authorities.
