35-year-old construction businessman extorted via WhatsApp blackmail in Pune
Summary
A driver in Pune attempted to extort ₹10 lakh from his employer through WhatsApp blackmail. The accused, Amit Dattatray Thopte, threatened to defame the employer’s father and harm his family if the money was not paid. The victim, Gaurav Pramod Dugad, a 35-year-old construction businessman from Vasant Bagh Society, Bibwewadi, filed a complaint on March 28, 2025. Police set up a trap and arrested Thopte when he went to collect the money at Pushpa Mangal Hall. At the time of arrest, ₹2,09,500 was recovered from him, including ₹2 lakh in dummy currency and ₹9,500 in real money. Thopte was booked at the Bibwewadi Police Station and placed in police custody until March 31, 2025.
