Minor dies by suicide after sextortion via Snapchat

Jan 1, 2023Oconto, United States1 source

Summary

A 17-year-old boy from Oconto, Landen, committed suicide in 2023 after becoming a victim of sextortion through Snapchat. Sextortion involves predators coercing victims into sending explicit content, then threatening to release it unless money or more content is provided. Landen’s death was one of at least three teen suicides in the area since 2022 linked to sextortion. His family, through their organization LW35, now raises awareness about sextortion in schools and communities. In March 2025, another 15-year-old, Bradyn Bohn from Marathon County, also died by suicide after being victimized in a similar scam. In response, the Wisconsin Assembly passed Bradyn's Law, which increases penalties for sextortion, including a Class B felony charge if a victim commits suicide.
