A sales and marketing executive lost over RM100,000 in an investment scam after meeting a man on the dating app Bumble in early January. The scammer, who introduced himself as “Lucian Hee Hao Yu” and claimed to be an engineer, convinced her to invest in a scheme called ‘Private Placement’ through a website, privatemutuallg.com. The victim made 12 transactions totaling RM102,992.40 into three local bank accounts between February 6 and March 6, 2024, and even took out a bank loan to fund the investment. She later realized she had been scammed and filed a police report on April 24, 2024. A police investigation has been launched under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
