Teenage girl harassed and threatened via Discord by adult leading to discovery of 52 CSAM images and home detention sentence
Summary
Seoras Martin-Smith met a teenage girl through Discord in January 2022 and sent her explicit images of himself, encouraging her to send similar images. After the teen stopped responding, Martin-Smith launched a campaign of threatening and abusive messages, including threats to leak her photos and calling her derogatory names. The victim, who was overseas, contacted New Zealand Police in January 2024 to report the abuse and stated she had had enough of the harassment. A search of Martin-Smith’s home in July 2024 uncovered 52 images of child sexual abuse material, including animated images. Martin-Smith pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 12 months of home detention with six months of post-detention conditions, and he was added to the child sex offenders register.
