Man loses ₹1.18 lakh to WhatsApp phishing link spoofing Axis Bank website

The scam targeted Sandip Kumar Agarwal, a 32-year-old resident of Alif Nagar, who lost ₹1,18,410 from his Union Bank credit card after clicking a phishing link. The fraudsters used stolen funds to purchase expensive gadgets, which were later sold in Kolkata. Four individuals, including Md Arif Khan, Raja Hati, Md Ahasan Ali alias Kaif, and Bikash Kumar, were arrested following late-night raids in Kolkata on July 26 and 27. Police seized 39 mobile phones, electronics, and ₹2.5 lakh in cash, with the total value of recovered items estimated at ₹15-17 lakh. The case is registered at Garden Reach Police Station under the BNS, 2023.
