46-year-old Singapore man filmed intimate videos of teenage girls and women via Facebook and Instagram, leading to four-year jail sentence and caning
Summary
A 46-year-old Singaporean man, Min Thein Kyaw, lured around 50 women and teenage girls for photo shoots between 2011 and 2020 by promising payment, and then filmed intimate videos of them, some without their consent. The victims, aged 15 to 25 at the time, were often approached through Facebook and Instagram, and sessions took place at his home or a rented studio in Serangoon Road. During these sessions, Min touched victims’ private parts and recorded videos of sexual acts, including with a 16-year-old girl who was blindfolded and filmed without her knowledge. He also engaged in an obscene act with a 15-year-old schoolgirl in a carpark near Kallang MRT station in 2016. In addition, he sent sexual text messages to a 12-year-old girl in 2020. On January 17, Min was sentenced to four years, three months, and 14 weeks in jail and received two strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to 19 charges, including making obscene films and insulting a woman’s modesty. Police were alerted in August 2020, and his electronic devices were found to contain nearly 800 obscene films.
