A 34-year-old insurance agent named Danny Tan Wee Mun became a victim of an online gambling scam after rejecting a cold call promoting illegal gambling websites on 9 May. Following the call, scammers sent WhatsApp messages claiming gambling accounts had been opened in his name and later fabricated a debt of over RM2,280. On 20 July, the scam escalated to physical harassment when unknown individuals placed threatening flyers at Tan’s parents’ home in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, displaying personal information and threats. Tan has since filed a police report and publicly denied any involvement in online gambling or loan shark activities.
