Summary
Mohammed Taufiq Johari, MP for Sungai Petani and member of PKR, became the third PKR lawmaker targeted in a coordinated AI deepfake blackmail campaign. On September 12, 2025, he received a threatening email containing an AI-generated pornographic video depicting someone with his likeness, with a demand for US$100,000 in cryptocurrency to prevent its public release. The same campaign also targeted Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Subang MP Wong Chen with identical emails on the same day, each with the perpetrator's face digitally inserted. Police confirmed reports were also filed by Senator Datuk Nelson W Angang and others. Investigations were launched under the Penal Code (extortion) and Communications and Multimedia Act.
