City man scammed out of $800 on Facebook Marketplace

A Bellefontaine man lost $800 after falling for a scam involving a fake vehicle listing on Facebook Marketplace. The scammer claimed to sell a 2003 Chevy Tahoe from Rhode Island and promised free shipping. The victim paid using two Green Dot prepaid cards totaling $800 and sent the card details via email as instructed. After the payment, the scammer asked for more money and then stopped responding. The scammer provided a link resembling an official eBay page, but no login was required. Deputies found the Facebook profile used in the scam was recently created with minimal information, and the scammer used a California area code.
